The Makings of a Hormone Detox Diet

Be careful which Hormone Detox Diet you choose

According to Dr. Oz “Today, the marketplace is cluttered with detox diets for you that promise to help you lose weight, boost your energy levels and more. However, many popular detox diets, especially those that involve extreme low-calorie fasting, can rob the body of important nutrients and place the body into starvation mode, which actually slows your metabolism.”. So…. What should a Hormone Detox Diet Program consist of?

#1 Ingredient in ANY Detox Diet should be Fiber

The Bowel is one of the main eliminative organs. This means that it is continually removing what your body does not require. When embarking on a Hormone Detox it is important to consume enough fiber to escort toxins including excess hormones out of the body and keep them moving out.

Lack of fiber inhibits colonic contractions.

Most people consume less than 15 grams of fiber daily where the Hormone Detox advocates 30 -45 grams daily. That is approximately 15 grams of fiber per meal.
Taking a Fiber Supplement is suggested if you are not up to the chewing required to improve your fiber intake.

#2 Ingredient in a HORMONE Detox Is Indole-3-Carbonal (I3C)

Indole-3-carbinol is a phytochemical in the class of Indoles, found abundantly in broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, brussels sprouts, rutabaga, mustard greens, etc. These are members of the “cruciferous “family of vegetables.

Indoles are well known for reducing the effects of estrogen as it is metabolized through and by the liver. Additionally, Indoles have been studied for their ability to fight cancer.
For our purposes, however, I3C or indoles along with DIM are used to assist in detoxifying the liver and supporting the liver as it does its work of metabolizing hormones. Ultimately it is important because I3C stimulates detoxification enzymes in the gut and liver.

#3 Vitamin C

Vitamin C is also necessary for a variety of physiologic functions. High levels of the vitamin are maintained in the pituitary and adrenal glands – because of this Vitamin C is necessary for proper adrenal function.

Vitamin C helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins. This translates into Vitamin C for detox.Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin that is found in many fresh fruits and vegetables.
Vitamin C is an essential vitamin that is not synthesized in humans but must be obtained from food or supplements.

#4 Water

Water is important and in fact necessary to flush the kidneys. Coffee, Tea, and Juice do not count! Drink at least two quarts of water daily. There’s no concern that water will dilute the digestive juices or interfere with digestion. In fact, drinking water during or after a meal actually aids digestion. Water and other liquids help break down food so that your body can absorb the nutrients. Water also softens stools, which helps prevent constipation aiding in detoxification.

“You’re not sick; you’re thirsty. Don’t treat thirst with medication.”

The Hormone Detox is not fasting – but it will assist your body in balancing your hormones.
